Joseph Cohen

The artist Joseph Cohen, hard at work to detect cancer by color.

When an artist and a scientist have rapport, then you know both sides of the brain collide in a good way. That’s what happened when nanotech researcher Daniel Heller of Memorial Sloan Kettering met artist Joseph Cohen at an art gallery showing off his contemporary art. The two collaborated. Joseph creates nanotube-based paints that can be used to test for cancer and diabetes while also creating a new form of visual art. While the nano may seem invisible to the viewer, the reality is not.
